Alexandrite Jewelry
One of the birth stones for the month of June, Alexandrite is one of the rarest natural gems. Named after tsar Alexander II of Russia, this phenomenal stone displays color change in different lighting. Since its discovery, the famous Russian Alexandrite mines have been totally depleted, but new sources for gem-quality Alexandrite have been found in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and India. Due to its chemical composition, natural Alexandrite is extremely scarce. It is both hard and tough, so Alexandrite is a practical stone for use in jewelry.
